“Late August, given heavy rain and sun. For a full week the blackberries would ripen. At first, just one, glossy purple, like thickened wine: Summer's blood was in it leaving stains upon the tongue and a lust for picking” ~ s. heaney (adapted) |

From Concept to Completion
Sometimes a client comes to us with an idea of what they want that is not something we have built before and we will create a CAD drawing as a representation.
I always love when the build is complete and I do a photo shoot and I can get the real world piece and CAD drawing in the same view and merge the two, like a fading of the intangible into the tangible! The nerd in me geeking out over silly things :)

The first art print below I created in honor of a young autistic boy who was mostly nonverbal, his Gramma would show him my art and he would linger over it, once I had drawn a Bumblebee and she had shown it to him and much to her surprise hours later he mentioned the "Bumble Jacket", his Gramma messaged me to tell me about it, OH how his two words sent my imagination into a delicious spin. I wanted to create a piece just for him so letting the thought come to fruition I created this little Bumble Jacket in honor of him and autism awareness everywhere, it has been one of my most popular pieces of art since then and still one of my own personal favorites! But with that being said a young "Momma To Be" was decorating her nursery for her first child and purchased this print from us to hang on the wall... a couple of years later she messaged me and asked if I would create another similar piece for her second baby with light blue, white and hydrangeas and that I had full artistic liberty to create what came to my mind. I, of course, was honored to do so as I adore babies!! So I created the second print below for her and her darling second daughter.
This past year she messaged me and said she was having her third daughter and would I once again create a piece for her nursery, this time with lavender and pale green and once again I was more than honored to help create a lovely place for mom and baby!
The third print below is what I came up with.
Three prints and three darling little ones and momma who loves them! The best of all worlds!!
Baskets of Gold
July ended with rain so August could dawn, freshly washed and sparkling as the rain rinsed away a month’s worth of dust, pollen, and humidity, the early morning breezes are refreshing and glorious.
A hawk circles overhead, his scream precedes him as he declares his supremacy and gives warning to all the little fur folk to stay sheltered in the undergrowth. A Bluejay responds with a mimicking cry, I am quite sure he does so tauntingly and with impish joy. The Bluebirds and their fledgling young gather on the edge of the field, testing wings and hunting skills, they never fail to delight me.
The succeeding days turn sullen gray as humidity returns and mixes with Canadian wildfire smoke, the sun is a fiery red ball, occasionally a passing breeze holds the smell of wood smoke, it’s strange and unnatural and as I walk down my forest path I am saddened that someone, somewhere has lost their trail through the woods, as the forest burns they have lost their sanctum which brought them inner peace, clarity of thoughts and emotions, brought healing and a place a part from a world filled electronics and artificial realities. I mourn with them in the loss of their beautiful world and I treasure mine all the more and I pray I never take it for granted or without a deep and abiding gratefulness.
A young buck bounds ahead of me, his white flag of a tail held high, so gracefully he traverses this wood. He stops and watches me from atop the knoll, he is beautiful in the early morning sun, a lovely rich brown coat, his large ears and eyes that listen and watch, his young antlers are nothing but velvety spikes now yet they show the promise of one day becoming the king of the forest.
Nightly a spider spins her tightrope across the pathway and every morning I unintentionally break her silken bridge which led her to and fro, a single thread that gives her freedom.... I feel callous and I hope she never feels discouraged by the wreckage my daily intrusions cause.
On the far side of the field, small song birds fly up from the grasses, their wings free them from the bounds of gravity, their light undersides capture the sun, they shine as the flocks' undulating flight rises and falls, capturing light and shadows, more and more arise until dozens are in the air and I watch in fascination. Its as if God has sprinkled confetti and I am there to behold the celebration of a new day dawning and the beauty of Creation.
Its Saturday and after waking up I took a long time getting ready to meet the day, so when I walk out of the shadowy forest into the back upper hay field, the sun is already high in the sky, warming the open land and evaporating the last of the dewdrops with the help of the soft breezes that send ripples of green over the field. The birds have settled into their late morning foraging and small talk, they flit in and out of the hedgerow without urgency. It is August, the best of Summer gone and Autumn not yet moving in to take her place so August holds within her golden days the ghosts of Summer and whispers of Autumn. And my late start has rewarded me with an abundance of Bumble Bees amongst the most darling of wildflowers, the Ribwort Plantain. I kneel in the grass letting the sun melt down on my shoulders, the breezes brush against my skin, my soundtrack is wrens and bluebirds and crows high above me and I, I watch the bees fill their pollen baskets with gold... Even my imagination couldn't conjure up a more golden moment than this.
And I, I am blessed beyond measure!
Happy August!!
